Adobe's Hoyt: "The Next Generation of Desktop Apps Will Span Platforms"

'AJAX developers brought Web 2.0 to the browser,' says Adobe's Kevin Hoyt. 'Now they can leverage their JavaScript and HTML skills - as well as the IDEs they are familiar with and already use - to build the next generation of desktop applications that span platforms.' Hoyt will be giving a session at AJAXWorld Conference & Expo 2007 West next month (September 23-26) at the Santa Clara Convention Center.

You are nuts, guys!

Sometimes changes are good, sometimes are bad indeed. And sometimes so @#$@# annoying. I have a bad feeling that Google's Blogger.com team got nuts at some point, otherwise i just can't find explanation on how the hell you can handle usability and accessibility this way for users from different countries...

I use blogger.com for quite a while, indeed i like it in general, was very satisfied with all last changes, until i decided to go and visit Ukraine. Today i open blogger.com and what i see there? Guess what? Exactly, interface in Ukrainian language! What the @#$@@##?? Took me a while to figure out that one of the links on the bottom is actually language switcher. Obviously, to make my life harder it was written in Ukrainian language. Like it was so @#$@#%& hard to put some "Language/XXXXXX" sorta link, so people at least will be able to find it by intuition, not by clicking every single link in hope that this is the one they wants.

Get real. Get some brains.

Data Services Made Easy for Flex Applications

Flex has gotten popular lately because of its rich GUI capabilities. It also comes in handy with HTTPService and Web Service components connecting to back-end servers to fetch and update data. But using this mechanism to talk to the back-end server requires formulating a unique service object from the Flex side, making a request, and getting back data from the back-end either in XML or plain text ...

Gaia AJAX technology set for .Net developers

Gaia Ajax Widgets, an alternative AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) library for developing ASP.Net and Mono applications, has been upgraded with re-factoring to make it easier to view and modify code.

Researchers Warn of Ajax Attacks

Companies that have used Asynchronous JavaScript and XML to jazz up corporate Web sites may be dangerously vulnerable to a variety of Web-based threats, warned researchers at the Black Hat USA conference in Las Vegas this month. Billy Hoffman of SPI Dynamics said at the conference that many corporate Web developers are not paying attention to fundamental Ajax security issues.

A Comparison of Push and Pull Techniques for AJAX

AJAX applications are designed to have high user interactivity and low user-perceived latency. Real-time dynamic Web data such as news headlines, stock tickers, and auction updates need to be propagated to the users as soon as possible. However, AJAX still suffers from the limitations of the Web's request/response architecture, which prevents servers from pushing real-time dynamic Web data.

As he consumed Eric Schmidt's press briefing during the Google CEO's mid-week stopover in Seoul, Korea, web strategist Jeremy Owyang posted a note on Twitter saying that he was 'Laughing at Eric Schmidt's definition of Web 2.0...' ? 'He says that Web 2.0 is AJAX. ROFL' Owyang wrote, implying that the definition was way too restrictive.
